The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT, Dr. Aminah Zawedde, has dismissed reports of a planned internet shutdown ahead of next week’s General Election.
while addressing the press this morning, Dr. Zawedde stated that the government has neither ordered nor announced such a move.
She further warned that live broadcasting and online streaming of riots are prohibited, as they can cause fear and panic among the public.
It should be noted that Internet was off in the country during the previous general elections, most especially in 2021.
The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Executive Director, Nyombi Thembo, also dismissed reports of a possible internet shutdown ahead of next week’s General Election, saying he has not received any instruction to prepare for such a move.
