MBALE DISTRICT — In a major boost to local infrastructure, the Mbale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Bayole Stanley, officially launched several vital water and sanitation projects across Budwale and Busiu sub counties.
These initiatives were funded by Oxfam through the Mbale District Local Government, to focus on improving hygiene and access to clean water for rural communities and schools.
The launch covered several key sites led by the District Water Officer, Mr. Wandera Simon Peter in Budwale Subcounty a Pipeline extension was launched alongside two-stance drainable latrine blocks in Mayiyi village and in Busiu Subcounty at Lumbuku Primary School, officials commissioned a two-stance drainable latrine block, a water tank, and two modern garbage collectors and the contract of building drainable latrines was awarded to Ideal Merchant Property Holding Ltd
While addressing residents in Mayiyi village, Mr. Wandera Simon Peter urged the community to protect the new infrastructure. He reported to the RDC that some community members have been intentionally spoiling water pipes, which effectively cripples the entire water system.
In response, RDC Mr Bayole Stanley issued a sharp warning: He promised that anyone caught damaging water pipes would be arrested, noting that such acts drag the community backward in terms of development. He tasked Local Council (LC1) to be active and be the guardians of these government and partner-funded projects within their villages.
Mr. Bayole warned parents whose children are not in school would face arrest. He emphasized that education is the only way to ensure a better future for the children of Budwale.
The RDC urged the public to stop political bickering and work together as a team for the sake of community progress.
Madam Katami Bess, the District LCV Vice Chairperson, joined the RDC in thanking Oxfam for their continued support of needy communities. She asked the project contractors to hire local community members to provide labour during construction to ensure the projects provide immediate economic benefits. She also issued a strict warning against the employment of anyone under the 18 years and if found legal actions will be put in action.
RDC Mr Bayole concluded by urging contractors to deliver high-quality work and maintain a friendly relationship with the communities they serve, while calling on other organizations to follow Oxfam’s lead in supporting government development goals.
