The achievement comes hot on the heels of the school’s strong performance in the 2025 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations, where several candidates scored in the top brackets, qualifying them for government sponsorship slots under the national merit system.
According to school sources, the 16 students have been admitted to competitive programs including Medicine, Engineering, Law, Education, and Business-related courses at institutions such as Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Gulu University, and Busitema University.
The Headteacher of Mbale Mr Buyera Moses, expressed pride in the students’ hard work and the dedication of the teaching staff.
“Mbale SS continues to prove that with discipline, focused teaching, and parental support, our learners can compete at the national level,” Buyera said. “This is not the first time we are celebrating such success, and we expect even more next year as we continue to improve our science and arts departments.”
This latest success adds to Mbale SS’s growing reputation as one of the leading secondary schools in the Eastern Region.
In recent years, the school has consistently produced students who secure government sponsorships, contributing to the region’s human resource development.
Parents and local leaders have congratulated the school.
The Mbale District Education Officer described the results as “a beacon of hope” for other schools in the district. One of the admitted students, Sarah Namukose, who scored 18 points in PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and has been admitted to Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Makerere University, thanked her teachers for the guidance.“I am grateful to God and to my teachers at Mbale SS. They pushed us beyond our limits. My dream of becoming a doctor is now closer,” she said.
Education stakeholders note that such achievements from government-aided and private schools in upcountry regions help reduce the concentration of top talent in traditional Kampala-based schools and promote equitable national development.
Mbale SS has set a high bar for the 2025 UACE candidates currently in Senior Six, with the school administration already implementing additional revision programs and career guidance sessions to maintain this momentum.
As Uganda’s university admissions continue under the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and the Public Universities Joint Admissions Board (PUJAB), Mbale SS’s success story serves as an inspiration to students across the country.
