The Bugisu Parliamentary Caucus has held a strategic meeting with LC5 chairpersons from the Bugisu sub-region aimed at strengthening unity and enhancing coordinated development efforts across the region.
The meeting, led by the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Caucus, Hon. Wakooli Godfrey Matembu, brought together Caucus committee and LC5s of six districts of Bugisu and Mayor Mbale City to deliberate on how best they can work collectively to lobby the central government and address pressing community challenges.
Hon. Wakooli noted that the leaders resolved to prioritize key regional concerns, including the establishment and development of the Mbale University campus, addressing the plight of communities affected by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) activities, and finding long-term solutions for residents vulnerable to landslides.
“We want to begin by addressing the most pressing issues and ensure proper follow-up on Mbale University campus development, compensation and resettlement of people affected by UWA, and interventions for communities facing landslides,” he said.
Namisindwa LC5 Chairperson, Emma Bwayo, described the meeting as timely, saying it comes at a moment when leaders need to close ranks and focus on delivering services to the people.
“This unity is what we have been longing for as leaders. It is now time to work together and ensure that we effectively lobby central government for services that our people deserve,” he said.
Hon. Godfrey Wanyoto, Member of Parliament for Budadiri West and the Caucus Publicity Secretary, emphasized teamwork among leaders, noting that collective effort will elevate the development agenda of Bugisu.
“As leaders, we are committed to working as a team to move Bugisu to another level of development and ensure our people benefit from government programs,” he said
The leaders agreed to maintain continuous engagement and coordination in order to strengthen service delivery and promote sustainable development in the Bugisu sub-region.
