Government of Uganda earlier announced a state funeral in honor of Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere but his family and friends have rejected the request on grounds that the late asked for an ordinary send off.
Late former DP President, Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere also asked his family not to take his body to Parliament or Kololo for a state function.
While addressing press this evening this, Minister of information, Communication Technology and National Guidance, Hon. Minister Chris Baryomunsi reveled that Government is going to foot all bill as directed by the president of of Uganda.
According to Minister Baryomunsi, the body of late Ssemogerere will be taken to Rubaga Cathedral for prayers, thereafter, the body will be taken to nkumba, where he will be buried on Monday according to burial arrangement.
Dr. Kawanga who died aged 90 was a two time presidential candidate in the 1980 polls that were allegedly rigged by the UPC government of Dr. Milton Obote. He again vied for the same office and staked a huge challenge to president Museveni in the 1996 general elections.
Dr. Kawanga had served as the leader of opposition in the 1980-85 Obote government, before being appointed as internal affairs Minister in the Tito Okello Lutwa regime. He was later appointed for the same position by the NRA government, then reshuffled to the foreign affairs ministry, and then public service which he dropped and opted to vie for presidency for the second time.
