Fire guts Entebbe International Airport; Property Worth Billions Lost.

 



According to a statement issued by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority on the organisation’s official Twitter (X) handle, warehouses belonging to the DAS Handling Agency and National Medical Stores were the most affected.

Some of the property lost during the fire included mosquito nets belonging to the National Medical Stores.

“An incident involving a fire outbreak occurred at the DAS Warehouse located in the vicinity of Entebbe International Airport on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. A joint team of firefighting services is engaged to contain the blazing fire,” the statement read.

The spokesperson of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, Vianney Luggya, also confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with this website. Luggya said that the fire happened during the night of Tuesday and that investigations about the real cause of the fire were being carried out.

“The fire that gutted the airport happened in the night on Tuesday, September 13, 2023. The exact cause of the fire will be investigated. Warehouses belonging to both the DAS Handlers Agency and the National Medical Store were the most affected. National Medical Stores lost mosquito nets. We will get to the heart of the cause of this fire. DAS is one of the ground handlers operating at the airport, with offices adjacent to the Protea Hotel, outside the airport’s perimeter fence,” he said.

The spokesperson, however, did not reveal whether any lives were lost during the fire.
