NUP’s Rubongoya, Ssenyonyi, several others arrested at NUP headquarters on Independence Day.


The National Unity Platform leaders including its secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, and spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi have this morning been roughed up by police and army as they tried entering their headquarters in Kamwokya which had already been sealed off by the military.


Rubongoya, Ssenyonyi and several other members of the NUP were heading to their headquarters in Kamwokya to hold a press conference about the Independence Day and the continued abduction, arrest and alleged murder of their supporter.The two leaders and several other supporters were intercepted at the NUP headquarters’ gate by the UPDF military police, anti-riot police and field force unit personnel, roughed them up and bundled the two into a waiting security drone vehicle at the neighboring petrol station before speeding off.  


During the scuffle, the police and updf fired teargas and beat up people in order to disperse them.


We have established that the two were taken to Kira Road police station were they are being detained.




In the same way the National Unity Platform president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has been stopped from moving out of his home in Magere, Kasangati town council, Wakiso district where he is being kept on house arrest according to police.It should be noted that last week on the 5th of October 2023, Hon Robert Kyagulanyi was arrested from Entebbe Airport tarmac upon arrival and driven to his home in Magere were he was kept under house.
