Minister Nambozo Flees Voting Venue, As rival Lumolo Is Declared Unopposed for NRM Chairperson Election

The State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, doubling as Sironko district Woman MP, Florence Nambozo, who was contesting for the Sironko District National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairperson seat, abruptly left the voting venue at Mafudu Primary School in Mafudu Sub-County after arriving 30 minutes late.

Upon her arrival today, Friday, May 23, 2025, Nambozo found that all voters were chanting, singing songs, and wearing attire supporting Sulaiman Mafabi Lumolo, her competitor.

As the voting process progressed, Milton Mafabi, the Sironko NRM registrar, called upon the candidates to address the voters for the last time.

When Nambozo’s name was called, she was nowhere to be found, having apparently fled the scene. As a result, the registrar declared Lumolo the winner, citing that he had no opponent to contest against.  Lumolo pledged to mobilise people to support NRM and make sure that all elective positions in Sironko are taken by NRM.

Dison Balayo, one of the voters, expressed his satisfaction with the voting process, stating that it had demonstrated democracy in action.

However, he criticized Nambozo for fleeing the scene, accusing her of being scared of Lumolo’s strong support and implying that she lacked confidence in her own chances of winning.

Efforts to get a comment from Namboozo were futile by the time of filing this story since all her known telephone numbers were switched off.
