WHO IS MASABA MUHAMOOD.

In 2020, Masaba Muhamood Mutenyo, by then the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson of Mbale District, excelled in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and looked forward to enrolling for "A" Level at Mt Masaba High School in Mbale Town, where he sat for his UCE examinations.

After receiving the news that he had scored 52 aggregates in the Third Division, Mr Masaba, 48 years old, a prominent businessman, and also a mayor of the Industrial City division, was seen celebrating.

Masaba during his graduation last year

Born in 1972 in Nabumali Ward, Nabumali Town Council, Mbale District, Mr Masaba dropped out of school in Senior Two in 1991 but since then, he has been making unsuccessful attempts to go back to school.

While in one one-on-one with our reporter, Mr Masaba said he dropped out of school due to unavoidable circumstances.

“I wanted to improve my abilities to speak and write well. I knew how to write but not so well,” he said.

Despite his busy schedule, Mr Masaba says after the "A" Level, he joined university to pursue a course of his interest.

Mr Masaba’s father, the late Nicholas Simon Mutenyo, was deputy director of Special Forces during President Milton Obote's regime. His body has never been found since 1985.

Last year, Mr. Masaba Muhamood Mutenyo, the Mayor of Mbale's Industrial City Division, graduated with a Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration from Bugema University during its 29th graduation ceremony on November 5, 2023. The ceremony, held at the main campus in Luwero district, was presided over by the Chancellor, Pr. Dr. Moses Maka, with the theme "Stepping boldly forward" derived from Joshua 1:9.

Mr. Masaba expressed gratitude to God, his lecturers, and his family for their support in achieving this milestone.

Despite facing educational challenges in his youth due to his father's early passing, Mr. Masaba encouraged the younger generation to seize their educational opportunities and not struggle later in life. He also announced his intention to pursue further studies and obtain a degree.

The battle for Bungokho central county parliamentary seat has deepened after the Chairman LC 3 Bungokho sub-county in Mbale district Chris Mafabi Omir also declared interest in ousting National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) Richard Wanda.

Bungokho Sub County is one of the biggest sub-counties in Bungokho central constituency with over 20,000 voters.

This constituency was led by former state Minister of Trade, Hon. Micheal Werishe Kafabusa who lost his seat in the 2021 parliamentary elections to NRM’s Richard Wanda relegating him to agriculture where he now spends much of his time as he ponders whether or not to contest in the 2026 general elections.

But Richard’s teaser also boasted that they were on the ground and warned Masaba to prepare for defeat because NRM was here to stay and they were getting stronger by the day with their head President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
