Day four of the joint NRM flag bearer campaigns for Bungokho South constituency took a dramatic turn as candidates clashed on the podium while wooing voters in Bumasikye Sub-county.
The day’s events, which began in Lubaale and concluded peacefully in Lwaboba, were marked by spirited addresses, subtle jabs and passionate appeals to the electorate.
𝙒𝙤𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙙, widely regarded as the people's favorite, brought energy and excitement with a vibrant kadodi drum procession. Jubilant voters chanted “𝙒𝙤𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘽𝙪𝙣𝙜𝙤𝙠𝙝𝙤 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝” as he made his case to the electorate. He urged voters to choose him not based on family ties or neighborhood loyalty, but as a son and a friend who understands and shares their daily struggles.
“Your vote stands for better roads, safe water and medical services,” he emphasized. “Let’s vote for ability, not relation.”
𝙃𝙤𝙣. 𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙬𝙖𝙨𝙞 𝙍𝙤𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙩, the incumbent MP, took a defensive but confident stance. He reminded the people of Bumasikye of his achievements, including lobbying for Bumasikye Seed Secondary School grants, Bukhamunyu Primary School, road improvements and borehole repairs.
“I have a proven record. I have delivered and I seek your mandate to continue,” he stated.
𝙃𝙤𝙣. 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙞 𝙋𝙖𝙪𝙡, currently serving in the East African Legislative Assembly, challenged the incumbent's relevance at the national level.
“The current MP is unknown to the President,” Musamali claimed. “I have served in State House, Parliament and now EALA. I am the better straw to suck better services from government,” he said, drawing murmurs from the crowd with his metaphor.
𝙃𝙤𝙣. 𝙒𝙤𝙠𝙪𝙧𝙞 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙮 appealed to voter memory, saying he has remained committed to the constituency even after losing in the previous elections.
“Some disappeared after elections and have only returned to take again. They will disappear once more,” he warned.
𝙒𝙖𝙯𝙚𝙢𝙬𝙖 𝘼𝙜𝙣𝙚𝙨, the only female candidate, brought a fresh perspective to the race.
“This MP position is for both men and women,” she said. “The men have lied to you that women can’t contest. I have proved them wrong.”
She highlighted her development contributions, including constructing a waiting shade at Bumasikye Health Centre, grading roads with marrum and repairing boreholes.
The turn for questions;
An elderly man in Lwaboba asked Musamali why he wants to represent Bungokho South yet his term for EALA is still on.
In response, Musamali said he is coming because the current leadership doesn't represent the constituency well.
Hon. Wandwasi Robert was asked about the road connecting Muanda to Kimwaga which he promised in the previous elections. He sarcastically told them that the road is in the swamp which needs expertise. He has started by delivering metallic culverts yet to be installed before road works commence.
Wazemwa was asked if she was married, she proudly showed them the wedding ring and affirmed that she is happily married and her home is in Hospital Ward, in Busiu Town Council, her chairman is Samanya.
Other candidates were spared of questions since they are not serving
Despite the heated rhetoric on the podium, the campaign events were peaceful, with candidates freely engaging with each other including voters across the sub-county and supporters from different camps mingling with others happily.
As the race tightens, all eyes are on Bungokho South, where voters will soon decide on who best represents their aspirations.
