MBALE DISTRICT HOLDS SUCCESSFUL NRM JOINT ASPIRANTS’ MEETING TO DRAW CAMPAIGN ROADMAP

Mbale, July 3, 2025.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Mbale District has taken a significant step toward promoting peaceful and coordinated political engagement as it held a successful joint meeting yesterday for party aspirants at NRM Offices. The meeting, attended by all constituency and District Woman MP Aspirants, was aimed at drawing a common campaign roadmap ahead of the party primaries.

The gathering was presided over by the NRM District Chairman Mr. Wambogo Moses, who passionately appealed for unity, discipline, and cooperation among all aspirants. In his keynote address, the Chairman emphasized that the party's strength lies in cohesion, not confrontation.

"Let us campaign with dignity. Present your manifestos, sell your ideas, and leave the people to decide. Do not incite your supporters or provoke your opponents. We are one family, and we must act like it," Chairman Wambogo urged.

He also warned against acts of bribery and vote-rigging, affirming that only the genuine winner will be declared. "There is no need to worry. Go out and search for votes. The process will be transparent as all results shall be projected on large screens, and justice will prevail," he added.

The meeting was marked by constructive dialogue and mutual respect. Aspirants commended the transparency of the new executive committee, noting it as a refreshing departure from past irregularities. However, some raised concerns regarding the accuracy of the voters’ register, citing fears of inflation of numbers in specific areas, missing names in some places and the inclusion of non-existent voters or triple registered voters.

Two candidates brought up recent incidents where supporters allegedly clashed, including stone-pelting between rival camps.

The Chairman strongly condemned the violence, stressing that the NRM in Mbale will not tolerate any acts of hooliganism. He assured aspirants of maximum cooperation with security agencies to maintain peace.

Hon. George Wopuwa, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) and SP Francis Okongo, the District Police Commander (DPC) were present and assured candidates of adequate security throughout the campaign period. They encouraged aspirants to report threats or suspicious activities for timely intervention.

In a spirit of unity, the aspirants jointly drew a coordinated campaign roadmap. It was agreed that all constituency MP aspirants will jointly campaign parish by parish, while District Woman MP aspirants will hold joint rallies in selected centers within each subcounty.

The joint campaigns are scheduled to begin on Friday, July 4.

As the NRM primaries draw near, Mbale District has set a commendable example of mature politics and intra-party harmony. If the tone and resolutions from this meeting are anything to go by, voters can expect a peaceful, fair, and issue-based campaign season.

In a related development, the NRM Electoral Commission has changed dates for elections Parliamentary Flag bearers from 16th to 17th July, 2025 as the earlier dates shall be for the elections of SIGs(PWDs) at sub county level by the national Electoral Commission.
