Today 4th July 2025, Flt. Capt. Mukulaa Was dully nominated for NRM Central Executive Committee (political bureau of our revolution) Vice Chairman in charge of Eastern Uganda.
Mukula was norminated together with Speaker Among, who also serves as Bukedea District contest for the position of 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC), setting the stage for a high-stakes contest against incumbent Rebecca Kadaga, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs.
Mukula and Among have garnered significant backing from party delegates across Uganda. Earlier endorsements from Mbarara District and Mbarara City, as well as seven districts in the Busoga sub-region, underscored their growing influence within the party, most especially Among.
The nomination, confirmed by the NRM Electoral Commission, marks a significant moment in the ruling party’s internal elections as it prepares for the 2026 general elections.
The announcement came on Friday at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, where Mukual & Among’s nomination was celebrated by supporters and party delegates.
“When you speak of a unifying factor, think of Anita,” Among declared after her nomination, expressing confidence in her ability to mobilize support for the NRM.

“I want to assure the NRM fraternity that I will be a blessing to the party, especially in terms of mobilization,” she added, as reported by the Daily Monitor.
Among, who represents Bukedea District as Woman MP, has garnered significant backing from party delegates across Uganda. Earlier endorsements from Mbarara District and Mbarara City, as well as seven districts in the Busoga sub-region, underscored her growing influence within the party.
During a consultative meeting in Iganga, Busoga delegates, led by Iganga District NRM Chairperson Abubaker Walubi, praised Among’s leadership in Parliament and her potential to strengthen the party’s position in the CEC.
The race for the 2nd National Vice Chairperson (Female) position has drawn attention due to its competitive nature, pitting Among against Kadaga, a seasoned politician and former Speaker of Parliament.
Kadaga, who has held the CEC role for multiple terms, is expected to mount a strong campaign, leveraging her influence in Busoga and eastern Uganda.
The contest highlights a generational and regional dynamic within the NRM, with Among’s candidacy drawing strength from her parliamentary leadership and visibility in western and eastern regions.
Among has sought to downplay tensions, emphasizing that her candidacy is not a personal challenge to Kadaga but a fulfillment of the CEC position’s traditional alignment with the sitting Speaker.
“The position I am standing for is meant for the current Speaker. And by God’s grace, that is none other than Anita Among,” she said during a meeting with Busoga supporters in May.
“It is the Right Honorable Kadaga—my mother—who is standing against me,” she clarified, urging against politicizing the race.
The NRM Electoral Commission, led by Chairperson Tanga Odoi, has yet to announce official election dates for the CEC positions, but the nomination window for CEC candidates runs from June 26 to July 4, 2025, with President Yoweri Museveni scheduled to submit his nomination for NRM National Chairperson on July 4.
The CEC, as the party’s highest decision-making organ, plays a critical role in shaping NRM’s political strategy, vetting candidates, and guiding legislative priorities.
Among’s nomination follows her unopposed selection as the NRM flag bearer for Bukedea District Woman MP on June 16, 2025, after her sole challenger, Hellen Akol Odeke, was disqualified for failing to meet residency requirements.
Her rising political stature, cemented by her election as Speaker in March 2022 after being endorsed by the NRM CEC to succeed the late Jacob Oulanyah, positions her as a formidable contender.
As the NRM primaries approach, the contest between Among and Kadaga is expected to test party loyalties and reveal shifts in the NRM’s internal dynamics.
Observers note that the outcome could influence the party’s strategy heading into the 2026 elections, with both candidates vying to shape the NRM’s future leadership and policy direction.
