Confederation of African Football President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has heaped praise on President Yoweri Museveni and the people of Uganda for the successful hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) that concluded last month.
The CAF President’s message of appreciation, delivered to President Museveni on Sunday evening by Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Anita Among hailed Uganda’s hospitality and organizational excellence during the tournament.
In a message dated August 30, 2025, inscribed on the pennant delivered by Speaker Among, Dr. Motsepe wrote: “Thank you and the people of Uganda for your hospitality in hosting CHAN 2024 in Kampala.”President Museveni, in response, welcomed the message and used the opportunity to thank all stakeholders who contributed to the tournament’s success.
“This evening, I received a message from Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the President of the Confederation of African Football, expressing his appreciation for Uganda’s role in hosting CHAN 24. This message was delivered by Rt. Hon. Anita Among,” Mr Museveni wrote in a brief statement.
“I want to thank the Local Organizing Committee, as well as the Ministry of Education and Sports, led by Maama Janet, and everyone who contributed to the successful hosting of the tournament. Additionally, I thank the supporters who came out in large numbers to watch the matches,” the President added.
Uganda successfully staged CHAN 2024 in August, with games hosted at the refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, and others in Kenya and Tanzania, under the PAMOJA initiative. The tournament drew thousands of fans and was widely hailed as a major success for the country’s sports sector.
The praise from CAF comes as Uganda intensifies preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the country will co-host with Tanzania and Kenya
