Five More Bobi Wine Civilian Body Guards Remanded

The Kawempe Grade one Magistrate Damalie Agumasiimwe has remanded five additional National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Bobi Wine’s civilian bodyguards over allegedly carrying out illegal military drills at the party offices in Kavule earlier this year.

During a heavily guarded hearing on Monday, where members of NUP had gone to hear bail applications for Edward Sebuwufu aka Eddie Mutwe and Achileo Kivumbi, state attorney Sharon Nambuya surprised court by presenting an amended charge sheet to include five new suspects.

The five new NUP members on the charge include Tasi Calvin alias Bobi Giant who was abducted by military men on Saturday, Serunkuuma Edwin alias Eddie King Kabenja, Lukenge Sharif, Nyanzi Yasin, and Kaweesi Tonny.

Court proceedings were briefly marked by emotion when Mutwe’s daughter attempted to greet her father but was swiftly taken away by prison security, both Mutwe and Kivumbi were visibly moved by the incident as they were seen wiping away tears from their eyes after she was taken away.

Court heard that on February 12, 2025, the seven suspects, along with others still at large, participated in a meeting at the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule.

The meeting is alleged to have involved military-style drills, movements, and formations conducted without authorization from the relevant authorities, in violation of Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.

All seven suspects pleaded not guilty and applied for bail, supported by relatives and friends prepared to stand as sureties, even though some proposed sureties were blocked from court and later arrested.
