"2020 NRM party elections exposed Connie Galiwango's non-loyalty to the party when she defied and returned as an independent contesting against Wanyoto the party's official flag bearer for the Mbale Woman seat"_
Hon. Lydia Wanyoto Mutende the two-time contender for Mbale District woman representative and the city has expressed a high attitude of consistency to represent the good people of Mbale and Bugisu Sub Region
In 2015 Wanyoto entered Mbale politics where she participated in the Mbale District woman representative seat in the NRM primaries having served as East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) representative for Uganda from 2002-2012
In 2015, Mbale District NRM primary elections proved her loyalty to the party when she backed her opponent by not running as an independent in the general elections
Earlier in 2020, the government of Uganda created more electoral areas across the country where Mbale City was included
This pronouncement was embraced by people of Mbale thus this gerrymandering left the two political giants in the same ring.
After the end of the first quarter in 2020, NRM primaries were held where Lydia Wanyoto Mutende and Connie Nakayenze Galiwango participated and Lydia Wanyoto emerged victorious in this election
However, this election exposed Connie Galiwango's non-loyalty to the party when she defied and returned as an independent contesting against Wanyoto the party's official flag bearer for this seat.
In the general elections, Wanyoto lost to Connie Galiwango and was pronounced the winner for the Mbale city woman's seat.
Connie Nakayenze Galiwango has served as a woman representative for Mbale District for 10 years and 5 years for Mbale City
However, the 15 years of service as Mbale District and City Women representative is questionable as residents have largely questioned her service delivery and effective representation in Parliament
In 2025, Wanyoto returned in high gear to participate in the NRM party primaries, where she registered a landslide victory defeating two others
In the recently concluded 2025 NRM primaries, Connie Galiwango did not participate in this exercise, it is however, said that she is returning as an independent candidate
Wanyoto has therefore, exhibited a high level of consistency and focus to represent people of Mbale and Bugisu region amidst the disappointments in the previous elections
