Jubilations As NRM Flagbearer, Sarah Wekomba Donates Scan Machine To Boost Maternal Health In Bulambuli

Bulambuli District Woman MP aspirant, Sarah Nambozo Wekomba, on Monday commissioned an ultrasound scan machine and other medical equipment she donated to Muyembe Health Centre IV.

The donation aims to improve healthcare delivery and reduce the high maternal mortality rate in the district.

The facility, which serves an overwhelming number of patients, has been struggling with limited space and inadequate medical equipment.

Speaking to Bugisu Intellectual Media, Nambozo said the donation marked the beginning of improved health services under her corporate social responsibility initiative.

She delivered a complete ultrasound scan machine, a printer, an operation lamp for the theatre, and two delivery beds, urging residents to make full use of the facility.

“Mothers have been struggling to travel to Mbale Regional Referral Hospital for diagnostic ultrasound scans, but now the service is here to help them,” Nambozo said.

Chelegat Caroline, the nursing officer in charge of the maternity ward, expressed gratitude but highlighted space constraints at the facility.

“We handle about 200 mothers per month, yet we only had three delivery beds. Many mothers have been giving birth on the floor and sleeping there afterward. We thank Hon. Wekomba for adding more beds, but we still lack enough space where to put them,” she said.

Godfrey Wagwabubi, the Assistant District Health Officer, appreciated Nambozo’s support and urged the Chief Administrative Officer to recruit a senior health worker to operate the new ultrasound machine.

Dr. Sam Kapsindet, the in-charge of Muyembe Health Centre IV, also commended the donation and called on Nambozo to advocate for the facility’s upgrade to a district hospital, noting that it serves patients from seven districts and handles numerous accident cases due to its location along a busy highway.

Emmanuel Biara Wepukhulu, an aspiring MP and NRM flag bearer for Bulambuli County, through his Biara Foundation, pledged to paint several blocks at the health centre to improve the working environment for both patients and health workers.

He reminded the government of President Museveni’s 2016 pledge to upgrade Muyembe Health Centre IV to a district hospital, saying the promise is long overdue.

Biara also appealed to the President to compensate residents whose cows were taken by cattle rustlers, as he did for other regions such as Teso, Lango, and Acholi.

Kimamati Paul Michael, the NRM Chairperson for Bulambuli District, thanked Nambozo for lobbying for the equipment and urged leaders to focus on serving the people rather than forming political camps to divide the people.

“Since we gave them the NRM flags, they have started working. Let’s unite and work for our people and I believe they'll deliver,” Kimamati said.
