Police in Mbarara City on Saturday at around 1 a.m. intercepted ten buses at the Biharwe checkpoint carrying 840 youths allegedly mobilized under Aim Global, a scheme authorities have repeatedly flagged as fraudulent.
Security teams, including police and UPDF personnel, impounded the buses and escorted all passengers to the police playground, where a thorough screening exercise is currently underway.
Sources indicate that the youths were mobilized from several districts across the western region and were being transported to Kampala under unclear circumstances.
It has been discovered that each bus had been paid UGX 2.5 million for the trip.
Currently, Police working with the army, have begun transporting the 823 youths back to their homes after completing a full documentation exercise.
According to Rwizi Region police spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira, the youths told investigators they were allegedly coerced into paying between Shs1.2 million and Shs1.5 million to the AIM Global Alliance scheme, which had promised them jobs in Kampala.
