Nyondo Subcounty was on Tuesday rocked by excitement as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer and incumbent Woman Member of Parliament for Mbale District, Hon. Miriam Mukhaye, stormed the area on her re-election campaign trail.

Hundreds of residents turned up in large numbers to welcome the legislator, with many openly giving testimonies of her visible and impactful service delivery across the district. The crowds described her leadership as practical, people-centred and results-oriented.

Traversing the parishes of Nyondo, Nabumali, Bubentsye and Bufukhula, voters admitted they were misled during the NRM primaries to oppose her candidature due to what they described as falsehoods and propaganda. They publicly apologised and confessed that they had since discovered the truth after witnessing tangible improvements in health, education and social services under her leadership.

“𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬. 𝘞𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘕𝘙𝘔 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘨 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘳𝘴. 𝘝𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥,” residents declared.

In a major political boost, several leaders who had opposed Hon. Mukhaye during the party primaries crossed to her camp, leaving her opponents’ camp reportedly deserted as the district counts down to the general elections

Receiving the defectors, Hon. Mukhaye applauded them for embracing unity, truth and progress, urging them to work together for the development of Mbale District.

Addressing voters in Nyondo, the Hon. Mukhaye thanked residents for their continued trust and pledged to serve them even better if re-elected.

“𝘔𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘤𝘶𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴, 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦,” she said.

She highlighted key achievements, including procurement of the ambulance, spearheading a fundraising drive to expand Busiu Health Centre IV land with the aim of upgrading it to a district hospital. She further noted that every subcounty in Mbale District now has a Health Centre III staffed with medical personnel.

Hon. Mukhaye also cited her support to maternal health through the provision of basins and essential items such as mama kits to expectant mothers.

We have supported Muruba Health Center II to buy land for expansion and plan to upgrade it Health Center III with proposals to build a maternity ward and staff quarters.

In education, she revealed that she has consistently lobbied for government and partner support for schools including Nabumali Boarding Primary School and Bumbobi Seed School, among others. She added that her office annually supports PLE candidates with rice and success cards, and rewards best-performing girls with scholastic materials, including mattresses.

On the legislative front, the MP disclosed that in Parliament, they worked on a proposal of reducing the age of beneficiaries for elderly support from 80 to 65 years, with implementation expected to begin in the 2026/2027 financial year.

“𝘐 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳. 𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘨 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘣𝘣𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘔𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘵,” she said.

She concluded by urging voters to turn up in large numbers on 15th January and vote NRM for President and Members of Parliament, reminding them to choose the Bus symbol.
