KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Monday held a strategic engagement with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, and other senior party officials, as the ruling party intensifies preparations ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The meeting, described as a key “Strategic NRM Engagement,” focused on party coordination, resource mobilization, and alignment of leadership structures to advance the NRM’s long-term agenda.

It comes amid the party’s ongoing national leaders’ retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi, where officials have been reviewing the NRM Manifesto for 2026–2031 and harmonizing priorities across government ministries, departments, and agencies.

Nekesa, has played a prominent role in recent party activities, including commending Members of Parliament for their discipline and unity during the Kyankwanzi retreat.

She has highlighted the retreat’s success in orienting legislators and ensuring their plans align with the party’s vision for continued national development and economic transformation.

Sources close to the meeting indicated that discussions centered on strengthening party structures, grassroots mobilization, and financial strategies to support NRM flag bearers and special interest groups.

Nekesa has previously been applauded by regional leaders, including in Masaka City and her native Busia District in the Bukedi sub-region, for mobilizing resources and reinforcing party unity at the local level.

President Museveni, who chairs the NRM, is expected to continue guiding senior officials on key priorities, including economic mobilization, infrastructure development, and maintaining party cohesion as Uganda gears up for the next electoral cycle.

The engagement underscores the NRM’s proactive approach to internal consolidation, building on recent successes such as improved performance in various districts during the 2026 elections cycle and ongoing efforts to update party membership registers.

Further details on specific outcomes of the meeting are expected to be released by the NRM Secretariat in the coming days.
