NO EBOLA IN KAPCHORWA: RDC Bayole Clarifies Rumors, Urges Responsible Journalism

KAPCHORWA— The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kapchorwa, Mr. Bayole Stanley, has officially confirmed that the district remains entirely free of Ebola, debunking recent media reports that had sparked anxiety across the region.

Speaking during the first-ever Ebola Task Force meeting held at the RDC's office, Mr. Bayole addressed misinformation circulated by local journalists claiming that a Senior Two student at Sebei College exhibited all the symptoms of the virus.

Following the rumors, the district task force, in coordination with the District Health Officer (DHO) and health workers at Kapchorwa Hospital, worked tirelessly to assess the situation. Samples were collected from the student and sent to the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe for definitive testing.

The laboratory results returned today at 2:10 PM, testing negative for Ebola. The RDC assured the public that the student is in good condition, healthy, and completely free of the virus.

Mr. Bayole strongly cautioned journalists against irresponsible reporting on sensitive health matters, urging them to verify facts with health professionals before publishing.

"I advise journalists to always seek accurate information from the task force and health workers so that the public receives clear and truthful reports, rather than panic-inducing rumors," Mr. Bayole stated.

Despite the negative test result, the RDC emphasized that the public must not grow complacent. He reminded residents that a single negative case does not mean the threat is gone, urging everyone to strictly adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and report any individual exhibiting Ebola-like symptoms to the task force immediately.

Following the high-level meeting, district officials traveled directly to Sebei College to address and reassure the school's 1,680 learners, the teaching staff, and the surrounding community.

The delegation included key members of the district leadership:

Mr. Bayole Stanley (RDC and Task Force Chairperson) , The LCV Chairperson,The District Health Officer (DHO),The District Education Officer (DEO),The Chairperson of the Board of Governors, Sebei College,The School Headteacher and Management Staff

The district leadership continues to monitor the health situation closely to ensure the safety of all educational institutions and communities within Kapchorwa.
