KAMPALA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Nekesa Oundo Barbara, has directed party structures across the country to immediately pivot from political mobilization to aggressive economic mobilization, signaling a major strategic shift following the recent general elections.
Addressing District, Sub-county, and Parish Chairpersons in a high-level coordination meeting at the nrm headquarters in Kampala, Nekesa emphasized that the era of intense political campaigns has ended and the party must now focus on building sustainable economic support for the government and its programs.“Political mobilization is over. We must now turn to economic mobilization to provide sustainable support for our Government,” Nekesa told the gathering.
She instructed NRM Parish Chairpersons to compile comprehensive reports on the performance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) in their respective parishes. The reports are to be submitted to their Constituency Chairpersons (Members of Parliament) and the NRM District Offices for further action and management.
In addition, Parish Chairpersons were tasked with preparing and submitting detailed reports on the current status of Village LC1 Flagbearers to the NRM District Offices. This move is seen as an effort to strengthen grassroots party structures and ensure effective service delivery at the village level.
Nekesa further called upon the entire party structure to rally behind the newly sworn-in Members of Parliament, urging them to prioritize effective service to the people.“Support your just sworn-in MPs to serve the people better. This will give them and the party an opportunity to be re-elected in 2031,” she said.
The directives are expected to cascadne down to all NRM structures nationwide, with party officials anticipating tighter monitoring of both PDM implementation and grassroots leadership effectiveness in the coming months.
Political analysts view the meeting as part of the NRM’s post-election strategy to consolidate power through tangible socio-economic results rather than continued political rhetoric.
