KAMPALA – The Head Teacher of Nyondo Secondary School and the Chairman of its Board of Governors held a high-level meeting with the acting Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. John Chrysestom Muyingo, securing a firm commitment for a ministerial visit to the school before the end of 2026.
The meeting took place today at the Minister’s office on the 8th floor, commencing at 10:21 a.m. The delegation, led by the Head Teacher (HM) of Nyondo SS, Mr Wandulu Dismus and the Board Chairman, Mr. Worasi John used the opportunity to brief the Minister on the school’s pressing challenges, including severe staffing shortages, insufficient classrooms, and inadequate laboratory facilities.
Despite these constraints, the Minister expressed strong admiration for Nyondo Secondary School’s impressive performance in both academics and sports. He acknowledged the school’s resilience and achievements even under difficult conditions.
“I am impressed by what Nyondo SS has been able to accomplish,” the Minister reportedly told the delegation. He further assured the Head Teacher and Board Chairman that he would personally visit the school before the year ends, describing the visit as a priority.
This promise comes after the Minister was unable to fulfill a similar commitment last year to grace the school’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), citing heavy commitments related to the work of the First Lady.
The meeting also carried deep historical significance for the Head Teacher. According to the HM, the Minister was instrumental in guiding the establishment of Namawanga Secondary School in 2015.
That institution was later granted government support in 2017 and is currently undergoing major construction works by the Engineering Brigade of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). The HM expressed confidence that the Minister’s guidance and support could similarly transform Nyondo SS.
School leaders are optimistic that the anticipated ministerial visit will allow the Minister to directly witness the enrollment crisis facing the institution. Rapidly growing student numbers have placed enormous pressure on existing classrooms and science laboratories, a situation the delegation hopes the visit will help address through targeted government intervention.
The developments at Nyondo SS reflect broader challenges in Uganda’s secondary education sector, where many schools continue to grapple with infrastructure deficits even as they deliver strong academic and co-curricular results.
Parents, students, and the wider Nyondo community are now eagerly awaiting the Minister’s visit, which is expected to boost morale and potentially unlock much-needed resources for staffing, classrooms, and laboratory expansion.
