Bungokho Central MP Masaba Muhamood Mutenyo Secures Clean Water Lifeline for Thirsty Busano Residents

MBALE — Residents of Busano Sub-county in Bungokho Central Constituency are set to breathe a sigh of relief after their Member of Parliament, Hon. Masaba Muhamood Mutenyo, successfully lobbied for clean water interventions that promise to end years of struggle with unsafe and distant water sources.

The legislator, working in partnership with the West Bengal Charity Foundation, has prioritised water access as a core development agenda for the constituency.

During community engagements and project launches, Masaba highlighted Busano as one of the key beneficiary areas alongside Nyondo Sub-county, Nabumali Town Council, Busoba, Bumbobi and Bungokho.

The initiative includes the construction of solar-powered boreholes and a water station, aimed at delivering safe, reliable water closer to households. In Nashisaka Village and surrounding areas, the charity pledged three solar-powered boreholes, while a dedicated water station was committed for Muruba Trading Centre. These projects form part of a broader package that also includes housing for vulnerable families affected by heavy rains and structural damage.

Hon. Masaba has repeatedly stressed that access to clean water is fundamental to improving public health, reducing the burden on women and children who often walk long distances, and supporting household economic activities. “This is not a campaign tool but a genuine effort to elevate living standards for our people,” he stated during the commissioning of related works, underscoring that the interventions respond directly to the daily realities faced by families in Busano and neighbouring parishes.

Local leaders and residents have welcomed the lobbying efforts. Many households in Busano have long relied on unprotected springs, streams or distant points shared with livestock, exposing communities to waterborne diseases such as typhoid, dysentery and diarrhoea. Women and school-going children have borne the heaviest load, spending hours each day fetching water at the expense of education, farming and other productive work.

The MP’s partnership with the West Bengal Charity Foundation has already seen ground-breaking for borehole construction in Nabumali Town Council and Busoba Sub-county, with plans to extend similar facilities across the constituency, including Busano. The charity has also supported the reconstruction of homes for the most affected families, demonstrating a multi-pronged approach to community welfare.

As the newly elected representative for Bungokho Central, Hon. Masaba has continued to advocate for improved service delivery in Parliament and at the local level. His focus on water aligns with broader national priorities under the Ministry of Water and Environment and programmes such as the Parish Development Model, which emphasise household-level transformation.

Residents of Busano have expressed optimism that the new water points will not only improve health outcomes but also free up time for economic empowerment initiatives. Community members have pledged to safeguard the facilities and ensure their sustainable use for generations to come.

Hon. Masaba has called on local leaders, parish chiefs and development committees to work closely with implementing partners to identify priority sites, mobilise community support and monitor progress. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that government and partner resources reach the most underserved households in Busano and the wider constituency.
