The Mbale District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman and patron of All NRM chairmen in Bugisu Sub-Region Moses Wambogo , has called on leaders across all levels to use the suffering of Jesus Christ as an opportunity to repent from acts of corruption that are destroying the country.
Speaking during the Good Friday Way of the Cross procession, Wambogo appealed to fellow local and national leaders to desist from corruption which have failed government projects.
Mr Wambogo revealed that Corruption in Uganda's local governments in 2025 remains severe, with a worsening Corruption Perception Index (dropping from 26% to 25%) driven by systemic bribery in recruitment and public service delivery
Over 35% of public service workers admitted paying bribes for jobs, with reports citing up to 85% bribery in some district recruitments.
“I appeal to fellow leaders to use Jesus’ suffering to refrain from acts of theft, acts of corruption,” he said.
He also urged Ugandans and the faithful to pray to God for better leadership in the country, decrying the continued theft of taxpayers’ money.
Wambogo expressed concern that the rampant corruption within local governments and institutions of government that sabotages service delivery in our country.
However he called upon Christians to keep their faith in the risen Christ and follow his examples as per the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Christians across the Uganda and entire world are preparing to celebrate the Easter season which marks the suffering, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
He added that "Lenten period" which has lasted for 40 days before Easter prepares believers to suffer with Christ.
He urged that Easter makes a beginning of a new era for all those who have been fasting to renew their faith.
Wambogo narrated that ; “we are supposed to be more renewed when we celebrate Easter because we have come to the climax of a period waiting for Jesus Christ to come out as a victor, the one who has defeated death. This is not just an event; it is something we must reflect in our life style after we have celebrated the resurrection of our Lord.”
