BUSOBA, MBALE— The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Mbale, Mr. Bayole Stanley, has issued a stern call for quality and durability during a site inspection meeting for the new 9.5 billion Shilling Mbale District headquarters.
The meeting, held today at the construction site in the newly established Mbale Town Council, Busoba, served as a progress review for the massive infrastructure project currently being undertaken by the National Housing and Construction Company (NHCC).
The meeting was chaired by the District Engineer, Mr. Robert Nashimolo, who informed stakeholders that construction is currently within the projected timeframe for the initial phase.
RDC Bayole Stanley emphasized that the administration block is not a temporary fix.
"This building is to serve many generations to come, not for one month or one week. It is a building for generations," Bayole stated, urging all workers and politicians to ensure every plan made is productive toward this long-term goal.
The RDC noted that this will be the largest district headquarters in Eastern Uganda, surpassing the nearby Bulambuli District headquarters, which cost 5.4 billion Shillings. He insisted that the physical work must reflect the significant government investment.
Drawing a sharp contrast to recent incidents of collapsing buildings in Mbale City, the RDC urged engineers to be extremely "keen" on the quality of materials. To ensure safety, he mandated that every stage of construction must be approved before moving to the next.
The site visit was attended by a high-level delegation of district officials, reflecting the project's importance to the region:
Mr. Wangwe Robert (District Speaker) ,The LCV Chairperson of Mbale District ,The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (CAO),
The District Engineering Team
The RDC concluded by informing the members that these inspection meetings will continue regularly until the project is fully completed. The new headquarters in Busoba marks a major shift for Mbale District, which has been seeking a permanent home since the elevation of Mbale Municipality to City status in 2020.
