Hon. Miriam Mukhaye has been sworn in as the Mbale District Woman Member of Parliament for a second consecutive term, reaffirming her commitment to tackling youth unemployment, women’s empowerment, and access to education for the girl-child as the cornerstone priorities of her new legislative agenda.
The oath-taking ceremony marks the beginning of a fresh five-year mandate for the NRM legislator, who in the just-concluded general elections swept the party primaries with a commanding 92.7 per cent of the vote before going on to defeat her closest challenger in the general poll.

Speaking after taking the oath, Mukhaye vowed to hit the ground running, placing the economic concerns of young people and the welfare of women and girls at the centre of her agenda.
She pledged to use her legislative platform to push for policies that would open doors for unemployed youth, create enabling frameworks for women’s enterprise, and ensure that no girl in Mbale and Bugisu at large is denied the right to an education.
The lawmaker’s return to Parliament comes on the back of a first term widely regarded as impactful. During her initial tenure, she championed the rights of the less privileged against land grabbers, spearheaded the construction of boreholes to address water scarcity, and channelled seed capital to youth and women’s groups to foster entrepreneurship and reduce unemployment across the district, and supporting expectant mothers.
She also operates the Miriam Mukhaye Foundation, through which she has reached some of Mbale’s most vulnerable populations including teenage mothers and families without access to clean water extending her service beyond the walls of Parliament and into the heart of her communities.
Mukhaye has leveraged her position to lobby for government projects and services for Buikwe, bringing the district closer to the national table on matters of infrastructure development and social services.
