Mbale, Uganda – In a significant move to accelerate development across the Bugisu sub-region, leaders have resolved to convene a high-level meeting focused on crafting a comprehensive Bugisu Region Development Agenda.
Hon. Matembu Godfrey Wakooli, Member of Parliament for Butiru County and Chairman of the Bugisu Parliamentary Caucus, confirmed the planned leaders’ meeting while addressing a strategic session involving Members of Parliament and LC5 Chairpersons from the sub-region.
The Bugisu Parliamentary Caucus held the crucial coordination meeting with district chairpersons (LC5) to strengthen unity, improve collaboration, and align efforts toward rapid socio-economic transformation of the region.
Speaking during the meeting, Hon. Matembu Godfrey Wakooli emphasized the power of collective leadership:
“As leaders, we are committed to working as a team to move Bugisu to another level of development and ensure our people benefit from government programs.”
He stressed that fragmented efforts have previously hindered progress and called upon all stakeholders — including MPs, district leaders, cultural leaders, and technocrats — to put aside differences and work together for the greater good of the Bugisu people.The leaders unanimously agreed to maintain continuous engagement and coordination. Key resolutions from the meeting include:
- Organizing a broader Bugisu Sub-Region Development Agenda meeting involving all key stakeholders.
- Strengthening service delivery across districts in the sub-region.
- Ensuring effective implementation and monitoring of government programs for maximum community benefit.
- Promoting sustainable development initiatives in infrastructure, agriculture, education, health, and youth empowerment.
Hon. Matembu Godfrey Wakooli’s confirmation signals renewed momentum and strong political will to drive the sub-region’s development agenda forward through teamwork and strategic coordination.
