Kampala, Uganda – In a significant boost to grassroots structures, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Hon. Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has announced Central Executive Committee (CEC)-approved support for intensified village-level mobilisation efforts across the country.
The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at the NRM Secretariat in Kampala, attended by members of the party's Senior Management Team, leaders of the NRM Women's League, and other senior party officials. The gathering underscored the party's commitment to strengthening its organisational machinery at the most basic level of Ugandan society — the village.
Speaking with characteristic authority and enthusiasm, Amb. Nekesa Oundo emphasised that the CEC-endorsed initiative aims to empower village structures, enhance service delivery monitoring, and drive socio-economic transformation following the party's strong performance in recent elections. She highlighted the need for a seamless transition from electoral campaigning to sustained community engagement and economic mobilisation.
According to sources at the meeting, the approved support package includes targeted resources and logistical backing for village-level task forces. This builds on the party's established village-based mobilisation model, which features 63-member teams per village responsible for canvassing, vote protection (in electoral contexts), and ongoing sensitisation on government achievements.
Financial and Logistical Aid: Direct support to parish and village chairpersons for mobilisation activities, including monitoring PDM implementation and compiling reports on local challenges and successes.
Capacity Building: Training and orientation for grassroots leaders, with a strong emphasis on the role of women through the NRM Women's League.
Reporting Mechanisms: Instructions for parish leaders to submit detailed reports on village LC1 flag bearers and programme performance to higher party organs for timely intervention.
Focus on Unity and Service Delivery: Urging officials to rally behind newly elected leaders and prioritise development over past political rivalries.
This latest push comes as the NRM shifts gears toward long-term governance and economic empowerment after securing another decisive victory. Party structures are being directed to move beyond campaigns and into active support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni's development agenda, with particular attention to rural transformation.
Leaders at the meeting expressed optimism that intensified village mobilisation will consolidate the party's gains, ensure effective implementation of pro-people programmes, and prepare structures for future challenges, including local council elections and ongoing service delivery.
Amb. Nekesa Oundo's address was received with enthusiasm, with Women's League leaders committing to amplify outreach to female constituents and vulnerable groups. The meeting concluded with calls for unity, discipline, and renewed focus on the NRM's core mission of socio-economic transformation.
