Mbale District Launches Construction of Shs9 Billion New Headquarters

Mbale district local government has today Tuesday, 9th December, 2025 launched the construction of new headquarters at Busoba sub-county government land.

The former Mbale district headquarters, located at Malukhu Ward, Industrial City Division, were transferred to Mbale City in 2020, necessitating the construction of new offices.

During the ground breaking ceremony, Muhammad Mafabi, the LCV chairperson of Mbale district, stated that the whole project will cost 9 billion shillings, with 1.2 billion shillings already allocated in the 2025/26 financial year by Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

He urged stakeholders and leaders to support the district as they await the release of the remaining funds.

Mafabi says construction is expected to commence immediately, and the new block will accommodate all district offices.

Angela Akurut, the Chief Administrative Officer, Mbale district, urged the public to support the project, citing the need to vacate the former offices for Mbale city since they have over-stayed for six years.

Tonny Wamakale, councilor representing Bungokho sub-county also Mbale district LCV NRM flag bearer, emphasized the importance of quality work, ensuring value for money.

That land at first had controversies between Uganda police and the district whereby each was claiming ownership. However, it was later resolved that land be procured for Mbale Central police elsewhere for construction of its offices.
