Mulongo Fires Back: Top NRM Mobilizer Tells Bamasaba to Question Nandala on Shs11 Billion BCU Funds

A fresh wave of political tension has swept across Bugisu after Hon. Simon Mulongo, one of the region’s most influential NRM mobilizers, urged the people of Bugisu and Ugandans at large to scrutinize statements made by Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi—especially as he positions himself in the national political arena.

Speaking during a community engagement in Mbale City, Mulongo said voters should “trust leaders whose words stand on truth, not those who hide behind accusations.” He challenged Nandala to first account for the over Shs11 billion that was earmarked for the transformation of farmers under the Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU), funds which Mulongo says remain clouded in unanswered questions.

“Before Hon. Nandala speaks as a national figure or presidential hopeful, he must explain the whereabouts of the Shs11 billion that was allocated to BCU,” Mulongo said.

“Farmers deserve clarity, not confusion.”

Mulongo’s remarks come after weeks of political back-and-forth in the subregion, with leaders clashing over the management of BCU and repeated allegations of misused funds. His comments have intensified the debate, drawing widespread attention among Bamasaba farmers who have long awaited full revitalization of their cooperative

As the exchange between Mulongo and Nandala escalates, the fate of the Shs11 billion—and the truth behind its management—remains a central question for the people of Bugisu.
